Biography
Jocelyn Kavanagh entered the field of music technology from an interest in sound design and live sound for theater. She has experience as an artistic and technical director of live theater productions. Her interest in the artistic and technical domains inspired her to study music technology at Georgia Tech. She graduated with both her bachelor's and master's degrees in the music technology. While pursuing studies and research, she also gained experience in marketing and event coordination.
Kavanagh typically teaches Intro to Audio Tech 1, Survey of Music Technology, and Intro to Music Tech. She also co-advises the Interactive Music Group VIP with Alexandria Smith. In addition to teaching, she manages the equipment for the School of Music and oversees the livestream of the School of Music ensemble concerts. Her favorite event of the year is the Guthman Musical Instrument Competition.
Statement of Teaching Interest
Ms. Kavanagh teaches in undergraduate Intro to Audio Tech sequence and the Survey of Music Technology course. She also teaches the first year seminar, Intro to Music Technology. Her teaching interests include sound synthesis, digital signal processing for musicians, and audio software design.
Statement of Research Interest
Ms. Kavanagh's research focuses on projects in the interactive music space. Currently, she is particularly interested in data-driven composition, and the relationship between creative performer and creative machine. She co-advises the Interactive Music Group within the vertically integrated project (VIP) course programming.
