Georgia Tech Concert Orchestra
Dr. Timothy Verville, Conductor
GTCO brings together three vibrant overtures from the 19th century, each revealing a distinct side of the orchestra. Glinka’s Overture to Ruslan and Lyudmila bursts onto the stage with dazzling speed, energy, and brilliant orchestral color, setting the scene. Beethoven’s Coriolan Overture takes a darker and more dramatic turn, using powerful contrasts and driving rhythms to portray the inner conflict of its tragic hero. The program concludes with Brahms’s Academic Festival Overture, a spirited and good-humored work that combines several traditional student songs into a brilliant orchestral celebration.
