Transformative Experience Through Spanish Collaboration:
Student Musicians Perform with Noè Rodrigo Gisbert
Wes McRae | Atlanta, GA - January 21, 2026
The School of Music will host percussionist Noè Rodrigo Gisbert for a 10-day residency sponsored by the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain in Washington, D.C., during the Spring 2026 Concert Season.
"At its heart, this collaboration is about the Georgia Tech community and places our students, faculty, staff, and visiting artist at the center of the experience," said Chaowen Ting, director of orchestral studies. "By creating a space where learning happens through shared music-making, our students have the opportunity to rehearse and to perform with a world-class artist."
"Engaging directly with a guest artist from another musical culture, playing together with them in the orchestra, is a unique experience, and that kind of exposure can be transformative."
Gisbert's residency culminates in performances with student ensembles and School of Music percussionists:
- Thursday, February 12, Gisbert will perform with School percussionists before joining the Georgia Tech Concert Orchestra as head timpanist. The concert will feature a marimba duet with orchestra percussionist Fischer Jehs.
- Friday, February 13, Gisbert will join the Georgia Tech Symphony Orchestra to perform a percussion concerto by Pulitzer Prize and three-time Grammy-winner Jennifer Higdon. The concert will also feature Beethoven's Seventh Symphony, as well as a performance by the GT Laptop Orchestra.
- Tuesday, February 17, The Georgia Tech Symphonic Band will feature Gisbert in their performance of Brett Dietz's Concerto for Percussion and Symphonic Band. The concert will also feature a performance by the GT Concert Band.
According to his professional biography, Gisbert is an international soloist and regular percussionist with multiple ensembles and theater groups, most recently with the Asko|Schönberg Ensemble. He specializes in contemporary music at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and collaborates with different ensembles and orchestras around the world. He is also an educator, combining his concert activity with masterclasses and advanced courses, and holding a professorship at Conservatorio Superior de Música de Castilla y León.
Ongoing Collaboration Engages Atlanta Arts Community
"Partnerships and collaboration like this show how Georgia Tech brings people together in Atlanta," Ting said. "By collaborating for a fourth consecutive year with the Spanish Young Music Talents program and the Spanish Embassy, we created a bridge connecting international artists, educational institutions, and the Atlanta community through meaningful artistic exchange."
"This is also how the GT orchestra program evolves from an academic ensemble to becoming a living and engaging part of the city’s cultural life."
Ting is very proud of the wide variety of artistic talent this collaboration brings to Tech, she said. "We’ve had a pianist Laura Ballestrino, jazz saxophonist Daniel Juárez, and composer Pilar Miralles visit the campus through this program. We carefully choose the visiting artist every year, trying to find someone that will bring the most unique energy, artistry, and experience to our students and the broader Tech community."
