Kelsey Brunson currently serves as the Administrative Operations Coordinator for the Georgia Tech School of Music in Atlanta, GA. Kelsey comes to Tech with a decade of experience in K-12 education both in the classroom and at the district level, most recently working for Mapleton Public Schools in Denver, Colorado. Prior to that Kelsey was the Assistant Band Director at Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, GA and Director of Bands at South Hall Middle School in Gainesville, GA where she was awarded “Teacher of the Year” for the 2018 – 2019 school year. Bands under her direction have consistently earned superior ratings at GMEA sponsored festivals and students under her direction have been selected to perform in District Honor Band, All-State Honor Band, and have received multiple collegiate music scholarships.

As a percussionist, Kelsey has performed with the Colorado Wind Ensemble, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra, and the Ludwig Symphony Orchestra. She has been a featured performer at the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) In-Service Conference and the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC). Kelsey was a member of The Cadets Drum Corps from 2010 – 2012, serving as Front Ensemble Section Leader in 2012. She was Corps Manager for The Cadets’ 2023 season and is currently Corps Manager for The Academy Drum Corps in Tempe, AZ.

Kelsey earned Bachelor of Music degrees in both Percussion Performance and Music Education from Columbus State University, and a Master of Music Education degree from Reinhardt University where she studied under David Gregory and Dr. Tom Fraschillo. She is currently an MBA candidate at Georgia Tech’s Scheller College of Business.

Her professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education, the Georgia Music Educators Association, the Percussive Arts Society, Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity for Women, and Scheller Women in Business.

Mrs. Brunson currently lives in Stone Mountain, GA with her husband D.I. and their two rescue dogs Chipper and Bongo!
